A Players Guide to the PS4

Hello gamers! Today it is my regret to inform you that the next few posts on this blog shall be my last (writing for this blog that is), but I want to end things on a good note! I want to leave you guys with a detailed insight on the PS4, what it’s capable of, what it can do, and so on. Everyone can read about a big game news center doing reviews, but I always like having that average player perspective when looking at my console and the games for it.

This post I want to be more of an overview of what the guide is going to give you. I want this guide to be able to provide a perspective for players, having both the positives and negatives presented equally. From my last post on Microsoft’s display on Sony’s launch day, I want to be the one to present the PS4 in a non-biased light so you see everything and not just the neat features.

So to move forward, chapter one of the guide will be covering the PS4 home screen and PSN. In the advancement of ideas and connectivity that Sony wants for its consumers, their layout for the store and the home screen have changed drastically since the PS3. The PSN has also changed a lot in that PS Plus is a necessity to your online play now and not just a nice option to have.

The second chapter will be an exploration of the new abilities the console has such as cloud gaming services, background downloads, sleep mode and so on and seeing what is good about them and what is bad.

Check out Gaikai’s website here:

Chapter 3 will be an actual game review on the PS4. Covering things like the graphics and performance on the PS4 but also looking at the smaller features and aspects that playing games on the PS4 brings such as live streaming of your gameplay, the controller interactivity with its new touch pad and more.

In chapter 4 I want to do a lined up comparison to the Xbox One, using what I have gathered in the first 3 chapters and looking at the Xbox One to make an honest comparison.

The last chapter, chapter 5 will inform players wallets about the console. I want to do a cost layout for the PS4, extra equipment, games and so on.

I hope you all enjoy my guide as much as I hope I can bring you helpful and interesting information! Until next time!

True Gaming Spirit: Why can’t we all just get along?

Hello gamers! Today I want to share with you all for those that haven’t seen or heard about it a real show of respect. This past week Sony released their PS4, an anticipated console and rival to Microsoft’s Xbox One which releases Nov. 22. Now as we all know, Sony and Microsoft have been at each others throats competing for the #1 title in consumers wallets. However, amid all of the chaos on the console battlefield, Microsoft was able to brush the dust off and congratulate Sony on a successful launch.

Yes you read right, Microsoft and Sony have engaged on pleasant terms with one another. It all began with a simple tweet from Xbox Live’s Director of Programming Larry Hyrb. Sony in response thanked them and shared equal sentiments for their launch of the Xbox One next week.

Just yesterday morning, Microsoft on their official Xbox Twitter page posted this:

It is truly amazing to see that these two companies, differences aside are able to appreciate one another’s successes. Maybe fans can learn something from this and learn to respect one another a little more than we do. Regardless of who you are Xbox fan, Play Station junkie, die-hard Nintendo fan or PC gamer, we are all gamers. It doesn’t matter how we do it, but what we get from it that matters. Until next time gamers!

A Look at the Future of Gaming: The Oculus Rift and where it stands today

Hello gamers! Welcome back to WrmH0l3, today I want to discuss the future of gaming and what it will mean to us gamers in the near and distant future. I’m sure everyone has dreamed of jumping right into your favorite video game and being a part of the world inside the disc that you put into your console. Well the brilliant minds over at Oculus have been working hard at bringing gamers as close to that as possible.

The Oculus Rift is a new age virtual reality headset that will bring gamers a fully immersed experience within the realm of first-person games. With a 7 inch display that cuts 100% of the stereoscopic overlap in the 3D function, powerful 1080p retina display and a seclusion effect that blocks out the outside world throws players immediately into the game with visual stimulation alone.

With such powerful technology, one may think “well is it game ready yet?” The answer is “sort-of.” Although the development is progressing at a high rate and there are actually 3D VR renditions of popular titles such as Doom 3-4 and Half Life 2, they are playable through the development kit. Oculus is still hard at work perfecting every detail in the headset to bring to the consumer version. There are still some bugs such as screen door issues, not big ones but some that have been noticed.

Gaming is not the only technology that the Oculus Rift has branched into however, the headset has been turned into a pair of eyes for drone simulations as well and has the capabilities of being used in fields such as medical, architecture and many others.

A current status of the Oculus Rift is that it is PC compatible due to their ability to function at high resolutions that are needed to keep the visual display functioning at necessary specs. As for next-gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox1, Oculus is unsure if they will be readily available for those consoles as the integration and necessary resolution functionality are not totally there yet.

Aside from it’s infancy problems the Oculus Rift is shaping up to be a powerful and incredibly intriguing piece of tech for gamers around the globe. Until next time gamers!

Braving the Storm: Blizzard finally solidifies it’s online brawler

Hello gamers! Welcome back to WrmH0l3, today I want to reach out to the PC crowd; fans of Blizzard Entertainment to be exact. If you have not heard yet, Blizzard is currently in the works of their own online brawler game. I’m referring to Heroes of the Storm.

Blizzard discussed the game at Blizzcon 2013 to their dedicated fans after teasing them for the past few years with it as they worked on whether they actually were going to make it. The game will feature 20 years of Blizzard gaming history, from iconic characters to the memorable landscapes players traveled in their journeys.

Players will be able to select from four types of characters: Assassins, Warriors, Support and Specialist.

Assassin characters will be able to deal severe amounts of damage, prefering to take out unsuspecting players. However, they need to be wary as they don’t take damage well. Warrior characters are as you might think, tough in battle and just as tough to take down. Another given character in the Support is your healer or buffer, they can change the tides of battle depending on how you and your team play. Last but not least, your Specialist characters, these are characters that play specific roles in the battle depending on how your team is playing that match.

This title is also a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game (MOBA). Players of League of Legends should find some comfort in the playing style of Heroes of the Storm as you and a few teammates take on an opposing team to achieve a goal and win the match!

Aside from gameplay, players also have customizing their characters to look forward too. Heroes of the Storm is giving players the handle on how their character will fight and look. There will be a selection of masteries, heroic abilities and combat styles. Then you can work on their appearance with skins. Another feature is mounts that characters can ride into battle. Yes, Diablo stormed the battle field on a unicorn in the gameplay video.

Blizzard first introduced Heroes of the Storm to Blizzard fans at Blizzcon 2010 to test the waters with their abilities in the battle arena genre. The game resurfaced at the next Blizzcon in 2011 with a lot more support from fans and Blizzard alike. Here is a video with the developers behind Heroes of the Storm!

Blizzard is working to bring a fresh taste of the Brawler genre with Heroes of the Storm. And with more to come in the next few days, we will certainly hear more about the title! Until next time gamers!

The Fantastic World of Gaming

Hello gamers! Welcome back to WrmH0l3. Today I want to discuss a new console that is coming to players next summer that can very well change the way that gamers interact with their consoles. I am referring to the OUYA.

The OUYA is an all new console gaming experience that will change how gaming is done. It is an android powered “hackable” device. Powered by a Tegra 3 processor, 1 Gigabyte of RAM, and 8 gigs of flash storage.

When I say “hackable,” I literally mean hackable. The developers behind OUYA are promoting their device to be suited up with more powerful technology as an “open console.” Giving developers and other gamers the opportunity to develop new content and reveal their potential in video game development.

With so many great minds in the world with just no way to get their ideas to become realities, the OUYA steps up and allows players to develop their own games via the Unity development software or other software that can be downloaded to the console.

For those who aren’t that interested in development and just want to dive into the new gaming experience, the OUYA has a lot to offer gamers. To begin, it has access to several professionally made emulators for the N64, SNES, Gameboy Advanced and a few others.

It also has software for cloud gaming where you can download and play tons of your favorite titles and have them live streamed to your living room to the OUYA. OnLive, the cloud gaming service has recently struck up partnership with OUYA to bring hundreds of big-ticket games to the console at launch. Along with several indie titles that have been in development and already developed like The Cave by Double Fine Studios!

You’re probably wondering to yourself, “such a unique console has to be expensive, I can’t afford to drop another $300 or $400 on a console!” Well, you don’t have too! The OUYA is going on retail for $99! Not only is this innovative technology impressive, but affordable as well.

Let me know what you think of the OUYA here at WrmH0l3 via comments, Facebook or Twitter! Until next time gamers.

Not Everything is Alright in the World of Pokémon!

Hello gamers! There is some unfortunate news floating about the web about the new Pokémon X and Y games. As some of you are familiar with, people like to hack games to make things ideal for their game (ex: creating “perfect” Pokémon). Well, someone discovered how to hack into the 3DS and the new Pokémon games as well. The results are both interesting and devastating.

The nifty but possibly detrimental trading feature of Pokémon X and Y, Wonder Trade (image provided by:

The nifty but possibly detrimental trading feature of Pokémon X and Y, Wonder Trade (image provided by:

A feature offered to Pokémon trainers  back on the Nintendo DS titles Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, the Global Trading System is a world wide way that players can connect and share Pokémon with one another. It used the online capabilities of the DS and its predecessors to put the data from your game up for trade with other peoples.

However, with the recent rising of hacking in the new Pokémon titles, there have been illegitimate creatures being created and distributed along the network. You may be thinking “So What? It’s not like it will do anything if I get a hacked Pokémon.” You would be wrong.

The hacked creatures bring with them a game-breaking glitch that is irreversible. According to Bulbapedia, a popular website with news, tips and information on Pokémon, in an article on KPopstarz, “Due to people trying to Wonder Trade off hacked Pokemon they will appear as ‘Bad Eggs.’ They cannot be traded or released, and they will multiply until it fills all of your boxes.” Bulbapedia continued, saying, “This will also delete any of your Pokemon that are stored in your boxes as it will replace them with bad eggs. Trade at your own risk!”

This devastating discovery has made the idea of trading via Wonder Trade a very unsettling idea to me. I certainly don’t want to trust it until Nintendo and the Pokémon Company figure out how to fix it. However, amid the hacking and ruining of peoples games. A ROM hacker has discovered a few interesting things within the data of the Pokémon games.

These are three possible legendaries that could have become DLC characters or just unreleased Pokémon (image provided by:

Diancie, Volcanion and Hoopa are the discovered Pokémon hidden within the data files of X and Y. Diancie is reported to be Rock/Fairy type, Volcanion is Fire/Water type and Hoopa to be Ghost/Psychic. These Pokémon if they are real will be two never before seen dual-types (Carbink takes the Rock/Fairy dual-type first).

Another discovery was the possible addition of giving Latios and Latias, two legendaries from Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Mega-Evolutions.

So what do you think trainers? Will you trust the Wonder Trade feature to complete your Kalos Pokedex? Do you think these “discovered” Pocket Monsters are real? Tell WrmH0l3 what you think in the comments or on Twitter or Facebook! Until next time gamers!
